terms of service

Terms of Service

1. Overview

These terms govern all orders, alterations, and services provided by Tailors’ Keep. By placing an order—whether in person, by phone, or online—you agree to these terms in full. Please read them before proceeding.

2. Consultations & Quotes

All quotes are estimates based on fabric selection, construction complexity, and timeline. A written quote is valid for 30 days. Final pricing is confirmed upon fabric and design approval before production begins.

Fabric availability will be quoted during a consultation. Availability will not be guaranteed for fabrics with less than 10 meters per the respective mills reporting and you will be advised accordingly in these instances.

3. Orders & Deposits

All garment orders require full payment at the end of the fitting appointment to begin production.

Payment covers fabric procurement, pattern-making, and labor. Payment is non-refundable once cutting of the garment has commenced. By paying in full, you confirm that your measurements, fabric selection, and design details have been reviewed and approved.

4. Fittings & Alterations

Semi-bespoke garments average three fitting appointments - the initial fitting, the first fitting with the completed garment, and a final fitting after any potential adjustments.

True-bespoke garments average six fittings - the muslin/shell fitting, the basted fitting sleeveless fitting, fittings with the fully made garment and any additional fittings in-between to accommodate any pattern refining and styling details.

Each fitting is an opportunity to address fit adjustments within the original design scope. Structural changes beyond the original specifications may incur additional charges.

Fit adjustments due to significant changes in the client's body measurements after the initial fitting without having communicated such potential outcomes prior are not covered under the standard service and will be quoted separately.

Clients are responsible for arriving at fittings wearing appropriate undergarments for the intended use of the garment. Intended footwear is helpful, but not necessary.

5. Timelines & Delivery

Estimated completion dates are provided in good faith. Delays may occur due to fabric sourcing, artisan availability, or circumstances beyond our control. We will notify you promptly of any meaningful delay.

Garments not tried on within 90 days of the completion notice may be subject to alteration costs.

6. Remote Shipping & Fit Responsibility

In-person fittings are strongly recommended to finalize work before a garment is dispatched. Clients who waive this are accepting the garment's fit as constructed to their recorded measurements.

When a completed garment is shipped without a final in-person fitting, Tailors’ Keep will cover the cost of initial delivery. However, if fit concerns arise after delivery, we ask that the client return to one of our locations for a proper assessment under appropriate lighting and conditions — this is the most effective way to diagnose and resolve fit issues accurately.

Should a client be unable to visit in person and requests that the garment be shipped back for alterations, the following applies:

  • The first return shipment to our showroom will be covered by Tailors’ Keep as a courtesy.
  • Any subsequent shipping — in either direction — due to ongoing remote fit corrections will be at the client's expense.

Fit assessments conducted remotely (via photo or video) are provided as a good-faith effort only. Tailors’ Keep cannot guarantee the accuracy of remote evaluations, and subjective fit preferences communicated without an in-person appointment are addressed at our discretion. Clients who have waived a final fitting acknowledge these limitations.

Should a client choose to take their garment to a third party tailor to accomplish alteration work, Tailors’ Keep holds no liability for the work done by said tailor and are not responsible for any further adjustments post third party work.

7. Client-Supplied Materials

Tailors’ Keep does not accept client-supplied fabrics for first time commissions.

Returning Tailors’ Keep clients have the opportunity to provide personally sourced fabrics for garment types made previously at the client's own risk and after review by the Tailors’ Keep team. We cannot guarantee usage or results for materials with unknown composition, inadequate yardage, or inherent structural defects. We will advise you of any concerns before proceeding.

8. Satisfaction & Disputes

We stand behind our craft. If you have concerns about the finished garment, please raise them at any of the fittings or within 14 days of collection. We will make reasonable corrections within the original scope of work at no charge.

Concerns raised after 14 days, or damage caused by laundering, wear, or third-party alteration, are not covered under this policy.

We do not offer refunds on completed semi-bespoke or true bespoke garments. Our commitment is to correct and resolve any fit or construction issue directly.

9. Care & Liability

Each garment is delivered with care instructions specific to the fabric used. Tailors’ Keep is not liable for damage resulting from improper care, laundering contrary to instructions, or alterations performed by another party.

Any garments left in our care for fittings or storage are treated with the utmost diligence; however, we are not responsible for pre-existing damage or loss due to events outside our control (e.g. theft, fire, natural disaster).

Garments unclaimed after one year of being contacted notifying the garment(s) is ready to be picked up will be contacted for one last opportunity to claim the garment(s). If arrangements fail to be made to claim the garment(s), the garment(s) will be forfeited back to the possession of Tailors’ Keep with no refund and at the discretion of Tailors’ Keep’s use.

10. Cancellations

Cancellations made before production begins (cloth is cut) may receive a 50% refund.

Once a garment has begun production, payment is non-refundable.

11. Privacy

Measurements, contact details, and order history are stored securely and used only to fulfill your orders and improve our service. We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties. Photography of finished garments (on a mannequin) may be used for our portfolio unless you opt out in writing.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any disputes arising from services provided by Tailors’ Keep shall first be addressed through good-faith negotiation, and if unresolved, through mediation in San Francisco County before any legal action is pursued.
