The Palo Alto shop is less than an hour from The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, but if you’ve spent any time along this stretch of the California coast, you know the weather can feel less like sunny California and more like the Scottish Highlands.

The hotel sits above the rugged bluffs of the Pacific, with a world-class golf course stretching along the coast. When the wind comes up, pushing fog and chilly air through the high grasses, it’s not difficult to imagine yourself transported somewhere considerably farther north.

Then, at sundown, a bagpiper makes his way across the grounds. Add tweed, Shetland sweaters and a wee dram of whisky and the distance between the Highlands and our particular place in the world starts to feel rather small.

This addendum to our Perspective Lookbook series focuses on the Palo Alto team for good reason. Our second Tailors’ Keep location opened more than two years ago, and since then Anthony and Fitz have been helping clients dress well, with a dedication to the customer experience and a deep knowledge of the craft.

As golden hour settled in, the temperature dropped, the wind picked up and the outdoor fires were lit. The bagpiper’s reels drifted out over the ocean as a deep chill settled in.

But it was nothing a little whisky and wool couldn’t handle.
